Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were the Asshurites, Letushites, and Leummites. The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Keturah.Abraham gave all he had to Isaac. But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines, and while he was still alive, he sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward to the land of the east. These were the years of Abraham’s life: a hundred and seventy-five years.Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, old and satisfied with life, and he was gathered to his people. His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite, facing Mamre, the field Abraham had purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, along with his wife Sarah. After Abraham’s death God blessed his son Isaac, and Isaac lived beside Beer-lahai-roi.These are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s female servant, bore to Abraham. These are the names of Ishmael’s sons, by their names according to their generations: Nebaioth, Ishmael’s firstborn, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,Mishma, Dumah, Massa,Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These were Ishmael’s sons, and these were their names, according to their villages and encampments: twelve princes according to their tribes. These were the years of Ishmael’s life: a hundred and thirty-seven years. He breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people. They lived from Havilah to Shur, which faces Egypt in the direction of Assyria. He settled across from all his brothers. These are the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham fathered Isaac.Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as his wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram, and the sister of Laban the Aramean.Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren. The LORD answered his plea, and his wife Rebekah conceived. The children struggled together within her, and she said, “If this is so, why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of the LORD.The LORD said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples will be separated from within you. One people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”When her time to give birth was complete, there were twins in her womb. The first came out red, all over like a hairy cloak, and they named him Esau.Afterward his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel, and he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah bore them. The boys grew up. Esau became a skilled hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a quiet man who lived in tents.Isaac loved Esau because he ate his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.Jacob was cooking stew when Esau came in from the field, exhausted.Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me some of that red stuff, that red stuff, for I am exhausted.” That is why he was called Edom.Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright today.”Esau said, “Look, I am about to die. What use is a birthright to me?”Jacob said, “Swear to me today.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob.Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew. He ate and drank, rose and went away. So Esau despised his birthright.
