At the turn of the year, when kings go out to war, Joab led out the army, devastated the land of the Ammonites, and came to besiege Rabbah. David remained in Jerusalem. Joab struck Rabbah and demolished it.David took the crown from their king’s head and found that it weighed about seventy-five pounds of gold. It had a precious stone, and it was placed on David’s head. He brought out a vast amount of plunder from the city.He brought out the people who were in it and cut them with the saw, with sharp iron tools, and with saws. David did the same to all the Ammonite cities. Then David and all the troops returned to Jerusalem. After this, war broke out with the Philistines at Gezer. Sibbecai the Hushathite struck down Sippai, a descendant of the Rephaim, and they were subdued. There was another war with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jair struck down Lahmi, the brother of Goliath the Gittite. The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam. There was another war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all. He too was descended from Rapha. He taunted Israel, and Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, struck him down. These were descended from Rapha in Gath, and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.
