1 Peter 3

BTNT-2026-11-04

Likewise, wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, so that even if some disobey the word, they may be won without a word through their wives' conduct, when they observe your pure and respectful conduct. Let your adornment not be outward—the braiding of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of clothes— but the hidden person of the heart, in the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in God's sight. For this is how the holy women who hoped in God adorned themselves in former times, submitting themselves to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her children if you do good and do not fear any terror. Husbands, likewise, live with your wives with understanding, showing them honor as the weaker vessel and as fellow heirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. Finally, all of you, be of one mind, sympathetic, loving as brothers and sisters, tenderhearted, and humble, not repaying evil for evil or insult for insult, but on the contrary blessing, because to this you were called, so that you might inherit a blessing. For
“Whoever wants to love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
Let him turn away from evil and do good;
let him seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” And who will harm you if you become zealous for what is good? But even if you suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear, nor be troubled, but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you for a reason for the hope within you, but with gentleness and respect, keeping a good conscience, so that when you are slandered, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is God's will, than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God, put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he also went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, who once disobeyed, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared. In it a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. Baptism, corresponding to this, now also saves you—not the removal of dirt from the body, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, with angels, authorities, and powers subjected to him.
