2 Samuel 22

David spoke the words of this song to the LORD on the day the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said, “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge.
My Savior, you save me from violence. I call on the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies. For the waves of death surrounded me;
torrents of destruction terrified me. The cords of Sheol encircled me;
the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called on the LORD;
I called to my God.
From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry was in his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled;
the foundations of the heavens quaked and shook because he was angry. Smoke rose from his nostrils, and devouring fire came from his mouth;
coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens and came down;
thick darkness was under his feet. He rode on a cherub and flew;
he appeared on the wings of the wind. He made darkness shelters around him, masses of water, thick clouds of the skies. From the brightness before him, coals of fire were kindled. The LORD thundered from heaven;
the Most High made his voice heard. He sent arrows and scattered them;
with lightning he threw them into confusion. The channels of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the world were laid bare at the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. He reached down from on high and took me;
he drew me out of many waters. He rescued me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were stronger than I. They confronted me on the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a broad place;
he rescued me because he delighted in me. The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness;
according to the cleanness of my hands he repaid me. For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not wickedly departed from my God. For all his judgments are before me, and I do not turn away from his statutes. I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from my iniquity. The LORD repaid me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in his sight. With the faithful you show yourself faithful;
with the blameless warrior you show yourself blameless. With the pure you show yourself pure, and with the crooked you show yourself shrewd. You save an afflicted people, but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them low. For you are my lamp, LORD;
the LORD lights my darkness. With you I can charge a troop;
with my God I can leap over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect;
the word of the LORD is refined.
He is a shield to all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the LORD?
Who is a rock besides our God? God is my strong refuge;
he clears my way completely. He makes my feet like a doe’s and sets me on my high places. He trains my hands for war, so that my arms bend a bow of bronze. You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your response makes me great. You made room for my steps beneath me, and my ankles did not slip. I pursued my enemies and destroyed them;
I did not turn back until I had consumed them. I consumed them and crushed them so that they could not rise;
they fell beneath my feet. You girded me with strength for battle;
you made those who rose against me bow beneath me. You made my enemies turn their backs to me, and I destroyed those who hated me. They looked for help, but there was no one to save;
they looked to the LORD, but he did not answer them. I ground them like the dust of the earth;
I crushed them and trampled them like mud in the streets. You delivered me from the disputes of my people;
you kept me as head of nations.
A people I did not know serves me. Foreigners feign submission to me;
as soon as they hear, they obey me. Foreigners fade away and gird themselves as they come from their strongholds. The LORD lives!
Blessed be my rock!
Exalted be God, the rock of my salvation, the God who gives me vengeance and brings peoples down beneath me, who brings me out from my enemies.
You lift me above those who rise against me;
you rescue me from the violent man. Therefore I will give you thanks among the nations, LORD, and sing praises to your name. He is a tower of salvation for his king and shows faithful love to his anointed, to David and his offspring forever.”
