Amos 6
BTNT-2026-11-04
go from there to Hamath the great, then go down to Gath of the Philistines.
Are they better than these kingdoms, or is their territory larger than yours? You put off the day of disaster but bring near the seat of violence. You lie on ivory beds and sprawl on your couches, eating lambs from the flock and calves from the stall. You improvise to the sound of the harp and invent musical instruments for yourselves, like David. You drink wine from bowls and anoint yourselves with the finest oils, but you do not grieve over Joseph’s ruin. Therefore you will now go into exile at the head of the exiles, and the revelry of those who sprawl will cease. The Lord GOD has sworn by himself, declares the LORD, the God of hosts: “I abhor Jacob’s pride and hate his palaces.
I will hand over the city and everything in it.” If ten men remain in one house, they will die. His uncle, the one who burns him, will lift him to carry the bones out of the house.
He will say to the one in the innermost part of the house, “Is anyone else with you?”
He will say, “No one.”
Then he will say, “Silence!
We must not mention the name of the LORD.” For look, the LORD gives the command: he will shatter the great house and leave the small house split open. Do horses run on rock?
Does one plow there with oxen?
Yet you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood. You rejoice over Lo-debar and say, “Have we not taken Karnaim for ourselves by our own strength?” “For look, I am raising up a nation against you, house of Israel,” declares the LORD, the God of hosts, “and they will oppress you from Lebo-hamath to the brook of the Arabah.”
