If you diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you listen to the voice of the LORD your God:Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field.Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb, the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your livestock, the offspring of your cattle and the young of your flocks.Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. The LORD will command the blessing upon you in your storehouses and in all you put your hand to. He will bless you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.The LORD will establish you as a holy people to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in his ways. All the peoples of the earth shall see that the name of the LORD is called over you, and they shall fear you.The LORD will make you abound in good things, in the fruit of your womb, the fruit of your livestock, and the fruit of your ground, on the land the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.The LORD will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. The LORD will make you the head and not the tail. You shall be only above and not beneath, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God that I command you today, being careful to do them, and do not turn aside from any of the words that I command you today, to the right or to the left, to follow other gods and serve them. But if you do not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you:Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the field.Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.Cursed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, the offspring of your cattle and the young of your flocks.Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out.The LORD will send upon you cursing, confusion, and rebuke in all you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and quickly perish because of the evil of your deeds, by which you have forsaken me.The LORD will make pestilence cling to you until he consumes you from the land you are entering to possess. The LORD will strike you with wasting disease, fever, inflammation, and burning heat, with the sword, with blight and yellowing of crops. They shall pursue you until you perish. The heavens over your head shall be bronze, and the earth beneath you shall be iron. The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust. It shall come down on you from heaven until you are destroyed. The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You shall go out against them one way and flee before them seven ways. You shall become a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.Your carcass shall be food for all the birds of heaven and the animals of the earth, and no one shall frighten them away. The LORD will strike you with the boils of Egypt, with tumors, scabs, and itching, from which you cannot be healed. The LORD will strike you with madness, blindness, and bewilderment of heart. You shall grope at noon as the blind grope in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways. You shall be only oppressed and robbed always, with no one to save you.You shall be betrothed to a woman, but another man shall lie with her. You shall build a house but not live in it; you shall plant a vineyard but not enjoy its fruit.Your ox shall be slaughtered before your eyes, but you shall not eat any of it. Your donkey shall be taken from before you and not returned to you. Your flocks shall be given to your enemies, and you shall have no one to save you.Your sons and daughters shall be given to another people, while your eyes look and fail with longing for them all day, and there shall be no strength in your hand.A people you have not known shall eat the fruit of your ground and all the produce of your labor. You shall be only oppressed and crushed always. You shall be driven mad by the sight that your eyes see.The LORD will strike you on the knees and legs with severe boils from which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head. The LORD will lead you and the king you set over you to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you shall serve other gods, wood and stone. You shall become a horror, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where the LORD leads you.You shall carry much seed out to the field but gather little, for the locust shall consume it.You shall plant vineyards and work them, but you shall neither drink wine nor gather grapes, for the worm shall eat them. You shall have olive trees throughout your territory, but you shall not anoint yourself with oil, for your olives shall fall off.You shall father sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours, for they shall go into captivity. The locust shall take possession of all your trees and the fruit of your ground. The resident foreigner among you shall rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower. He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him. He shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. All these curses shall come upon you, pursue you, and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not listen to the voice of the LORD your God, to keep his commandments and statutes that he commanded you. They shall be a sign and a wonder upon you and upon your descendants forever.Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart in the abundance of everything, you shall serve your enemies whom the LORD sends against you, in hunger, thirst, nakedness, and lack of everything. He shall put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you.The LORD will bring against you a nation from far away, from the end of the earth, swooping like an eagle, a nation whose language you do not understand,a nation of fierce countenance, which shall not respect the old or show favor to the young. It shall eat the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground until you are destroyed. It shall leave you no grain, new wine, or oil, no offspring of your cattle or young of your flocks, until it has made you perish. It shall besiege you within all your gates until your high and fortified walls in which you trust come down throughout all your land. It shall besiege you within all your gates throughout all your land that the LORD your God has given you.You shall eat the fruit of your womb, the flesh of your sons and daughters whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and distress with which your enemy oppresses you.The tender and very delicate man among you shall look with an evil eye toward his brother, the wife of his bosom, and the rest of his children who remain, refusing to give any of them a share of the flesh of his children that he eats, because he has nothing else left, in the siege and distress with which your enemy oppresses you within all your gates. The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her delicacy and tenderness, shall look with an evil eye toward the husband of her bosom, her son, and her daughter, begrudging them her afterbirth that comes out from between her legs and the children she bears, for she shall eat them in secret for lack of everything, in the siege and distress with which your enemy oppresses you within your gates. If you are not careful to do all the words of this law written in this scroll, to fear this glorious and fearsome name, the LORD your God,then the LORD will make extraordinary your plagues and the plagues of your descendants, great and lasting plagues, severe and lasting diseases. He will bring back upon you all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded, and they shall cling to you.The LORD will also bring upon you every disease and every plague not written in the scroll of this law, until you are destroyed. You shall be left few in number, though you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not listen to the voice of the LORD your God.Just as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good and multiply you, so the LORD will rejoice over you to make you perish and destroy you. You shall be plucked from the land you are entering to possess. The LORD will scatter you among all the peoples, from one end of the earth to the other. There you shall serve other gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, wood and stone.Among those nations you shall find no ease, nor shall there be rest for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and a sorrowful soul.Your life shall hang in doubt before you. You shall fear night and day and have no assurance of your life.In the morning you shall say, ‘If only it were evening!’ and in the evening you shall say, ‘If only it were morning!’ because of the dread your heart feels and the sight your eyes see.The LORD will bring you back to Egypt in ships, by the way of which I told you, ‘You shall never see it again.’ There you shall offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there shall be no buyer.”
