The word of the LORD came to me:“Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: Wail, “Alas for the day!”For the day is near, the day of the LORD is near. It will be a day of clouds, a time for the nations.A sword will come upon Egypt, and anguish will be in Cush when the slain fall in Egypt, its wealth is carried away, and its foundations are torn down.Cush, Put, Lud, all the mixed population, Cub, and the people of the land of the covenant will fall by the sword with them.This is what the LORD says: Those who support Egypt will fall, and the pride of its strength will come down. From Migdol to Syene they will fall by the sword within it, declares the Lord GOD.They will be desolate among desolate lands, and its cities will be among ruined cities.They will know that I am the LORD when I set fire to Egypt and all its helpers are broken.On that day messengers will go out from my presence in ships to terrify secure Cush. Anguish will come upon them on the day of Egypt, for it is coming.This is what the Lord GOD says: I will put an end to the multitude of Egypt by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.He and his people with him, the most ruthless of the nations, will be brought in to destroy the land. They will draw their swords against Egypt and fill the land with the slain.I will dry up the rivers and sell the land into the hands of the wicked. I will devastate the land and all it contains by the hand of foreigners. I, the LORD, have spoken.This is what the Lord GOD says: I will destroy the idols and put an end to the worthless gods in Memphis. There will no longer be a ruler from the land of Egypt, and I will put fear in the land of Egypt.I will devastate Pathros, set fire to Zoan, and execute judgments against Thebes.I will pour out my wrath upon Sin, the stronghold of Egypt, and cut off the multitude of Thebes.I will set fire to Egypt. Sin will writhe in anguish, Thebes will be breached, and Memphis will face enemies by day.The young men of Aven and Pi-beseth will fall by the sword, and these cities will go into captivity.The day will grow dark in Tahpanhes when I break the yokes of Egypt there and the pride of its strength ceases within it. A cloud will cover it, and its daughter towns will go into captivity.I will execute judgments against Egypt, and they will know that I am the LORD.’”In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me:“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. It has not been bandaged for healing or wrapped with a bandage to bind it and strengthen it to grasp a sword.Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break his arms, the strong one and the broken one, and make the sword fall from his hand.I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them among the countries.I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand. I will break Pharaoh’s arms, and he will groan before him with the groans of a mortally wounded man.I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but Pharaoh’s arms will fall. They will know that I am the LORD when I put my sword in the hand of the king of Babylon and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt.I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them among the countries. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
