Hosea 4

BTNT-2026-11-04

Hear the word of the LORD, people of Israel, for the LORD has a charge against the inhabitants of the land: there is no faithfulness, no steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land. “Swearing, lying, murder, theft, and adultery break all bounds;
bloodshed follows bloodshed.
Therefore the land mourns, and everyone dwelling in it wastes away, along with the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens.
Even the fish of the sea are taken away.
Yet let no one contend, and let no one accuse another, for your people are like those who contend with a priest. You will stumble by day, and the prophet will also stumble with you by night.
I will destroy your mother.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Because you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from serving as priest to me.
Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I too will forget your children.
The more they increased, the more they sinned against me.
I will exchange their glory for shame.
They feed on the sin of my people, and each sets his desire on their iniquity. It will be the same for priest as for people.
I will punish him for his ways and repay him for his deeds.
They will eat but not be satisfied;
they will prostitute themselves but not increase, because they have ceased to heed the LORD.
Prostitution, wine, and new wine take away understanding. My people consult their wood, and their staff gives them answers.
For a spirit of promiscuity has led them astray, and they have prostituted themselves, turning away from their God.
They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn incense on the hills, under oaks, poplars, and terebinths, because their shade is good.
Therefore your daughters prostitute themselves, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
I will not punish your daughters when they prostitute themselves or your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery, for the men themselves go aside with prostitutes and sacrifice with cult prostitutes.
A people without understanding will come to ruin.
Though you prostitute yourself, Israel, let Judah not become guilty.
Do not go to Gilgal or go up to Beth-aven, and do not swear, ‘As the LORD lives.’
For Israel is stubborn, like a stubborn heifer.
Can the LORD now pasture them like a lamb in a broad meadow?
Ephraim is joined to idols;
leave him alone.
When their drinking is over, they give themselves wholly to prostitution;
her rulers dearly love dishonor.
The wind has wrapped her in its wings, and they will be put to shame because of their sacrifices.”
