Isaiah 24

Behold, the LORD is emptying the earth and laying it waste, twisting its surface and scattering its inhabitants. It shall be the same for people and priest, slave and his master, slave woman and her mistress, buyer and seller, lender and borrower, creditor and debtor. The earth shall be utterly emptied and utterly plundered, for the LORD has spoken this word. The earth mourns and withers;
the world languishes and withers;
the lofty among the people of the earth languish. The earth is defiled beneath its inhabitants, for they have transgressed laws, violated the statute, and broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants bear their guilt.
Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few mortals remain. The new wine mourns, the vine languishes, and all the merryhearted sigh. The joy of tambourines has ceased;
the noise of revelers has ended;
the joy of the lyre has ceased. They no longer drink wine with song;
strong drink is bitter to those who drink it. The city of chaos is broken down;
every house is shut against entry. There is an outcry over wine in the streets;
all joy has darkened, and the gladness of the earth has gone into exile. Desolation is left in the city, and the gate is battered into ruins. For so it shall be in the midst of the earth, among the peoples, as when an olive tree is beaten, as gleanings when the grape harvest is over. They lift up their voices;
they sing for joy.
From the sea they shout at the majesty of the LORD. Therefore glorify the LORD in the east;
in the coastlands of the sea, glorify the name of the LORD, the God of Israel. From the ends of the earth we hear songs: “Glory to the righteous one!”
But I say, “I waste away, I waste away!
Woe is me!
Traitors have betrayed;
with treachery the traitors have betrayed.” Terror and pit and snare are upon you, inhabitant of the earth! Whoever flees from the sound of terror shall fall into the pit, and whoever climbs out of the pit shall be caught in the snare.
For the windows on high are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble. The earth is utterly broken;
the earth is split apart;
the earth is violently shaken. The earth staggers like a drunkard and sways like a hut;
its transgression weighs heavily upon it.
It shall fall and not rise again. In that day the LORD will punish the host on high, on high, and the kings of the earth, on the earth. They will be gathered together like prisoners in a pit and shut up in prison;
after many days they will be punished. The moon will be disgraced and the sun ashamed, for the LORD of hosts reigns on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before his elders there will be glory.
