Jeremiah 31

BTNT-2026-11-04

“At that time,” declares the LORD, “I will be the God of all the clans of Israel, and they will be my people.” This is what the LORD says: “The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness, when I went to give Israel rest.” From afar the LORD appeared to me: “I have loved you with an everlasting love;
therefore I have drawn you with steadfast love.
Again I will build you, and you will be rebuilt, virgin Israel.
Again you will adorn yourself with your tambourines and go out in the dance of those who rejoice.
Again you will plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria;
the planters will plant and enjoy the fruit.
For a day is coming when watchmen will cry out in the hill country of Ephraim, ‘Get up!
Let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God!’”
For this is what the LORD says: “Sing with joy for Jacob, and shout for the foremost of the nations.
Proclaim, praise, and say, ‘Save your people, LORD, the remnant of Israel!’
Look, I am bringing them from the land of the north and gathering them from the farthest parts of the earth.
Among them are the blind and the lame, the pregnant woman and the woman in labor together;
a great assembly will return here.
They will come with weeping;
amid their pleas I will lead them.
I will guide them beside streams of water, on a straight path where they will not stumble, for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.
Hear the word of the LORD, nations;
proclaim it in the distant coastlands.
Say, ‘The one who scattered Israel will gather him and guard him as a shepherd guards his flock.’
For the LORD has ransomed Jacob and redeemed him from the hand of one stronger than he. They will come and sing for joy on the heights of Zion;
they will stream toward the bounty of the LORD, toward grain, new wine, oil, and the young of flocks and herds.
Their life will be like a watered garden, and they will languish no more.
Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, and young men and old together.
I will turn their mourning into joy, comfort them, and give them gladness instead of sorrow.
I will satisfy the priests with abundance, and my people will be satisfied with my goodness,” declares the LORD. This is what the LORD says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping: Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.” This is what the LORD says: “Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for there is a reward for your labor,” declares the LORD.
“They will return from the land of the enemy.
There is hope for your future,” declares the LORD.
“The children will return to their own territory.
I have surely heard Ephraim lamenting: ‘You disciplined me, and I was disciplined, like an untrained calf.
Turn me back, and I will return, for you are the LORD my God.
After I returned, I repented;
after I came to understand, I struck my thigh.
I was ashamed and humiliated, for I bore the reproach of my youth.’
Is Ephraim not a precious son to me, a child in whom I delight?
Whenever I speak of him, I still remember him.
Therefore my heart yearns for him;
I will surely have compassion on him,” declares the LORD.
“Set up road markers for yourself;
place signposts.
Set your heart on the highway, the road you traveled.
Return, virgin Israel;
return to these cities of yours.
How long will you wander, faithless daughter?
For the LORD has created a new thing in the land: a woman will surround a man.”
This is what the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, says: “When I restore their fortunes, they will again say these words in the land of Judah and its cities: ‘May the LORD bless you, dwelling of righteousness, holy mountain!’ Judah and all its cities will dwell there together, farmers and those who travel with the flock. For I will refresh the weary soul and fill every languishing soul.” At this I awoke and looked, and my sleep had been sweet to me. “Look, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of animals. Just as I watched over them to uproot, tear down, demolish, destroy, and bring disaster, so I will watch over them to build and plant,” declares the LORD. “In those days they will no longer say, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.’ Instead, each will die for his own iniquity; whoever eats sour grapes will have his own teeth set on edge. Look, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband,” declares the LORD. “But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will each teach his neighbor or each his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know me, from the least to the greatest,” declares the LORD. “For I will forgive their iniquity and remember their sin no more.” This is what the LORD says, who gives the sun for light by day, the ordinances of the moon and stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—the LORD of hosts is his name: “If these ordinances depart from before me,” declares the LORD, “then the offspring of Israel will also cease to be a nation before me forever.” This is what the LORD says: “If the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below explored, then I too will reject all the offspring of Israel for all they have done,” declares the LORD. “Look, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the city will be rebuilt for the LORD from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate. The measuring line will extend farther to the hill of Gareb and turn toward Goah. The whole valley of the corpses and the ashes, and all the fields as far as the Kidron Brook, to the corner of the Horse Gate toward the east, will be holy to the LORD. It will never again be uprooted or torn down.”
