Job 22

BTNT-2026-11-04

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered: “Can a man be of use to God?
A wise man benefits himself.
Is it a pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous, or a gain that your ways are blameless? Is it because of your reverence that he rebukes you and enters into judgment with you? Is not your evil great?
There is no end to your iniquities.
For you took pledges from your brothers without cause and stripped the barely clothed of their garments. You gave the weary no water to drink and withheld bread from the hungry. The man of power possessed the land, and the favored man dwelt in it. You sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless were crushed. Therefore snares surround you, and sudden terror frightens you, or darkness, so that you cannot see, and a flood of waters covers you. Is not God in the height of heaven?
Look at the highest stars, how high they are!
Yet you say, ‘What does God know?
Can he judge through thick darkness?
Clouds conceal him, and he does not see;
he walks on the vault of heaven.’
Will you keep to the ancient path that men of evil trod, who were snatched away before their time, when a river was poured out upon their foundation? They said to God, ‘Depart from us.’ What could the Almighty do for them? Yet he filled their houses with good things.
The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
The righteous see and rejoice, and the innocent mock them: ‘Surely our adversaries are destroyed, and fire has consumed what remained of them!’ Be reconciled with him, please, and be at peace;
through these things good will come to you.
Receive, please, instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up;
put injustice far from your tent.
Put gold on the dust, and the gold of Ophir among the rocks of the streams. Then the Almighty will be your gold and precious silver for you. For then you will delight in the Almighty and lift your face toward God. You will plead with him, and he will hear you;
you will fulfill your vows.
You will decree a thing, and it will be established for you;
light will shine on your ways.
When people are brought low, you will say, ‘Lift up!’ and he will save the one with downcast eyes. He will deliver one who is not innocent, and that man will be delivered by the cleanness of your hands.”
