The allotment for the descendants of Joseph extended from the Jordan at Jericho to the waters of Jericho on the east, through the wilderness going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel. It went out from Bethel to Luz and passed on to the territory of the Archites at Ataroth. It went down westward to the territory of the Japhletites, as far as the border of Lower Beth-horon and as far as Gezer, and ended at the sea.So the descendants of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance. This was the territory of the descendants of Ephraim according to their clans: the border of their inheritance on the east ran from Ataroth-addar to Upper Beth-horon.The border went westward to Michmethath on the north. The border turned eastward to Taanath-shiloh and passed beyond it to the east of Janoah. It went down from Janoah to Ataroth and Naarah, touched Jericho, and went out to the Jordan. From Tappuah the border went westward to the Brook of Kanah and ended at the sea. This was the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants of Ephraim according to their clans, including the cities set apart for the descendants of Ephraim within the inheritance of the descendants of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages. But they did not drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer. The Canaanites have lived among Ephraim to this day and have been subjected to forced labor.
