The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron and said, “The Israelites shall camp, each by his own standard, with the emblems of their ancestral households. They shall camp at a distance around the Tent of Meeting. The camp of Judah shall camp on the east, toward the sunrise, under its standard, by their divisions. The leader of the descendants of Judah shall be Nahshon son of Amminadab. His army, according to those registered, is seventy-four thousand six hundred. The tribe of Issachar shall camp beside him. The leader of the descendants of Issachar shall be Nethanel son of Zuar. His army, according to those registered, is fifty-four thousand four hundred. Then the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of the descendants of Zebulun shall be Eliab son of Helon. His army, according to those registered, is fifty-seven thousand four hundred. All those registered in the camp of Judah are one hundred eighty-six thousand four hundred, by their divisions. They shall set out first. The standard of the camp of Reuben shall be on the south, by their divisions. The leader of the descendants of Reuben shall be Elizur son of Shedeur. His army, according to those registered, is forty-six thousand five hundred. The tribe of Simeon shall camp beside him. The leader of the descendants of Simeon shall be Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai. His army, according to those registered, is fifty-nine thousand three hundred. Then the tribe of Gad. The leader of the descendants of Gad shall be Eliasaph son of Reuel. His army, according to those registered, is forty-five thousand six hundred fifty. All those registered in the camp of Reuben are one hundred fifty-one thousand four hundred fifty, by their divisions. They shall set out second. Then the Tent of Meeting shall set out, with the camp of the Levites, in the midst of the camps. As they camp, so they shall set out, each in his place, by their standards. The standard of the camp of Ephraim shall be on the west, by their divisions. The leader of the descendants of Ephraim shall be Elishama son of Ammihud. His army, according to those registered, is forty thousand five hundred. Beside him shall be the tribe of Manasseh. The leader of the descendants of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel son of Pedahzur. His army, according to those registered, is thirty-two thousand two hundred. Then the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of the descendants of Benjamin shall be Abidan son of Gideoni. His army, according to those registered, is thirty-five thousand four hundred. All those registered in the camp of Ephraim are one hundred eight thousand one hundred, by their divisions. They shall set out third. The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the north, by their divisions. The leader of the descendants of Dan shall be Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai. His army, according to those registered, is sixty-two thousand seven hundred. The tribe of Asher shall camp beside him. The leader of the descendants of Asher shall be Pagiel son of Ocran. His army, according to those registered, is forty-one thousand five hundred. Then the tribe of Naphtali. The leader of the descendants of Naphtali shall be Ahira son of Enan. His army, according to those registered, is fifty-three thousand four hundred. All those registered in the camp of Dan are one hundred fifty-seven thousand six hundred. They shall set out last, by their standards.” These were the Israelites registered by their ancestral households. All those registered in the camps, by their divisions, were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty. But the Levites were not registered among the Israelites, as the LORD had commanded Moses. The Israelites did according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses. So they camped by their standards and so they set out, each by his clans and his ancestral household.
