Psalm 73

BTNT-2026-11-04

Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost strayed;
my steps had nearly slipped.
For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For they have no pangs in their death, and their bodies are well fed. They have none of the troubles of other mortals;
they are not afflicted like the rest of humanity.
So pride is their necklace, and violence covers them like a garment. Their eyes bulge with fatness;
the imaginings of their hearts overflow.
They scoff and speak of oppression with malice;
they speak from on high.
They set their mouths against heaven, and their tongues roam the earth. Therefore his people return here, and they drink water in abundance. They say, “How does God know?
Does the Most High have knowledge?”
Look, these are the wicked: always at ease, they increase their wealth. Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and washed my hands in innocence. For I have been afflicted all day long and disciplined every morning. If I had said, “I will speak this way,” I would have betrayed the generation of your children. When I tried to understand this, it was a wearisome task in my eyes, until I entered the sanctuaries of God;
then I understood their end.
Surely you set them on slippery ground;
you cast them down to ruin.
How suddenly they are desolated!
They are swept away, brought to an end by terrors.
Like a dream when one awakes, Lord, when you arise, you will despise their image. When my heart was embittered and I was pierced within, I was senseless and did not understand;
I was like a beast before you.
Yet I am always with you;
you have taken hold of my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me in glory. Whom have I in heaven but you?
And with you, I desire nothing on earth.
My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever. For look, those far from you will perish;
you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
But as for me, the nearness of God is my good.
I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may recount all your works.
