Zechariah 11
BTNT-2026-11-04
the majestic ones have been destroyed.
Wail, oaks of Bashan, for the dense forest has been brought down! Listen to the wailing of the shepherds, for their splendor has been destroyed!
Listen to the roaring of young lions, for the pride of the Jordan has been destroyed! This is what the LORD my God says: “Shepherd the flock destined for slaughter, whose buyers slaughter them and incur no guilt, and whose sellers say, ‘Blessed be the LORD, for I have become rich!’ Their own shepherds have no compassion on them. For I will no longer have compassion on the inhabitants of the land,” declares the LORD. “I am about to hand everyone over to his neighbor and his king. They will crush the land, and I will not rescue them from their hands.” So I shepherded the flock destined for slaughter, especially the poor of the flock. I took two staffs, calling one Favor and the other Union, and I shepherded the flock. In one month I removed the three shepherds. I lost patience with them, and they too detested me. Then I said, “I will not shepherd you. Let the dying die, and let the perishing perish. Let those that remain eat one another’s flesh.” I took my staff Favor and broke it, to annul the covenant I had made with all the peoples. It was annulled on that day. Then the poor of the flock who were watching me knew that it was the word of the LORD. I said to them, “If it seems good to you, give me my wages; if not, keep them.” So they weighed out thirty pieces of silver as my wages. The LORD said to me, “Throw it to the potter—the magnificent price at which they valued me!” So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the LORD. Then I broke my second staff, Union, to break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel. The LORD said to me, “Take up once more the equipment of a foolish shepherd. For I am about to raise up a shepherd in the land who will not care for the perishing, seek the young, heal the injured, or sustain those still standing. Instead, he will eat the flesh of the fat ones and tear their hoofs apart. Woe to the worthless shepherd who abandons the flock!
May a sword strike his arm and his right eye!
May his arm wither completely, and his right eye go utterly blind!”
