Isaiah 19
BTNT-2026-11-04
Behold, the LORD rides on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt.
The idols of Egypt tremble before him, and Egypt’s heart melts within it. “I will stir up Egyptians against Egyptians;
each will fight his brother and each his neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom. Egypt’s spirit will be emptied within it, and I will confound its counsel.
They will consult idols and enchanters, mediums and spiritists. I will hand Egypt over to a cruel master, and a fierce king will rule over them,” declares the Lord, the LORD of hosts. The waters of the sea will fail, and the river will be parched and dry. The channels will stink;
the streams of Egypt will dwindle and dry up.
Reeds and rushes will wither. The open land by the Nile, by the mouth of the Nile, and all the fields sown along the Nile will dry up, be swept away, and be no more. The fishermen will mourn;
all who cast a hook into the Nile will lament, and those who spread nets over the waters will languish. The workers in combed flax and the weavers of white cloth will be ashamed. Its pillars will be crushed;
all who work for wages will be grieved in soul. The rulers of Zoan are surely fools;
the counsel of Pharaoh’s wise counselors has become senseless.
How can you say to Pharaoh, “I am a son of the wise, a son of ancient kings”? Where, then, are your wise men?
Let them tell you and know what the LORD of hosts has purposed against Egypt. The rulers of Zoan have become fools;
the rulers of Memphis are deceived.
The cornerstones of its tribes have led Egypt astray. The LORD has mingled within her a spirit of confusion, and they have made Egypt stagger in all its work, as a drunkard staggers in his vomit. There will be no work for Egypt that head or tail, palm branch or reed, can do. In that day Egypt will be like women, trembling and afraid before the hand the LORD of hosts waves over it. The land of Judah will become a terror to Egypt;
everyone to whom it is mentioned will be afraid because of the purpose the LORD of hosts has determined against it. In that day five cities in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear to the LORD of hosts.
One will be called the City of Destruction. In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the LORD at its border. It will be a sign and a witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt.
When they cry to the LORD because of oppressors, he will send them a savior and a mighty one, and he will deliver them. The LORD will make himself known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day.
They will worship with sacrifice and offering;
they will make a vow to the LORD and fulfill it. The LORD will strike Egypt, striking and healing.
They will return to the LORD, and he will answer their pleas and heal them. In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria.
Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt into Assyria, and Egypt will worship with Assyria. In that day Israel will be a third with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth, whom the LORD of hosts has blessed, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.”
