Isaiah 3

BTNT-2026-11-04

For look, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, is taking away from Jerusalem and Judah support and supply: every supply of bread and every supply of water, the mighty man and the warrior, the judge and the prophet, the diviner and the elder, the captain of fifty and the respected man, the counselor, the skilled craftsman, and the expert enchanter. “I will make boys their rulers, and capricious children shall rule over them.” The people will oppress one another, each his fellow and each his neighbor.
The young will defy the old, and the contemptible the honorable.
For a man will seize his brother in his father’s house: “You have a cloak;
be our leader, and let this ruin be under your hand.”
That day he will raise his voice and say, “I will not be a healer;
there is no bread or cloak in my house.
Do not make me leader of the people.”
For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen, because their tongue and their deeds are against the LORD, defying his glorious eyes. The expression of their faces testifies against them;
they proclaim their sin like Sodom and do not hide it.
Woe to them, for they have brought evil upon themselves!
Tell the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds. Woe to the wicked!
It shall go badly with him, for what his hands have done shall be done to him.
My people—children are their oppressors, and women rule over them.
My people, your guides lead you astray and destroy the way of your paths.
The LORD rises to contend;
he stands to judge the peoples.
The LORD enters into judgment with the elders of his people and their rulers: “You have devoured the vineyard;
the plunder of the poor is in your houses.
What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the poor?”
declares the Lord GOD of hosts.
The LORD says, “Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with outstretched necks and seductive eyes, taking little steps as they go and jingling with their feet, the Lord will cover the scalps of the daughters of Zion with scabs, and the LORD will lay bare their private parts.” In that day the Lord will take away their finery: the anklets, the headbands, and the crescent ornaments; the pendants, the bracelets, and the veils; the headdresses, the ankle chains, the sashes, the perfume boxes, and the amulets; the rings and the nose jewels; the fine robes, the cloaks, the shawls, and the purses; the mirrors, the linen garments, the turbans, and the wraps. Instead of perfume there will be a stench;
instead of a belt, a rope;
instead of carefully arranged hair, baldness;
instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth;
branding instead of beauty.
Your men shall fall by the sword, and your warriors in battle. Her gates shall lament and mourn;
stripped bare, she shall sit on the ground.
