Isaiah 33

BTNT-2026-11-04

Woe to you, destroyer who has not been destroyed, and betrayer whom no one has betrayed!
When you finish destroying, you will be destroyed;
when you finish betraying, they will betray you.
LORD, show us grace;
we have waited for you.
Be their arm every morning, our salvation also in time of distress.
At the sound of tumult the peoples flee;
when you rise, the nations scatter.
Your plunder will be gathered as locusts gather;
it will be swarmed over as locusts swarm.
The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high;
he has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
He will be the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;
the fear of the LORD is his treasure.
Look, their valiant ones cry out in the streets;
the messengers of peace weep bitterly.
The highways lie desolate;
travelers have ceased.
He has broken the covenant, despised the cities, and regarded no one.
The land mourns and languishes;
Lebanon is ashamed and withers.
Sharon has become like the wilderness, and Bashan and Carmel shake off their foliage.
“Now I will rise,” says the LORD.
“Now I will be exalted;
now I will be lifted up.
You conceive dry grass and give birth to stubble;
your breath is a fire that will consume you.
The peoples will be burned to lime;
like cut thorns they will be set ablaze.
Hear what I have done, you who are far away;
acknowledge my might, you who are near.”
The sinners in Zion are afraid;
trembling has seized the godless.
“Who among us can dwell with devouring fire?
Who among us can dwell with everlasting burning?”
The one who walks in righteousness and speaks uprightly, who rejects gain from extortion, shakes his hands free of bribes, stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil— he will dwell on the heights;
rocky fortresses will be his refuge.
His bread will be given to him, and his water will be sure.
Your eyes will see the king in his beauty;
they will behold a land stretching far away.
Your heart will ponder the terror: “Where is the one who counted?
Where is the one who weighed?
Where is the one who counted the towers?”
You will no longer see the fierce people, a people whose speech is too obscure to understand, whose stammering tongue cannot be comprehended. Look upon Zion, the city of our appointed festivals.
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a tranquil dwelling, a tent that will not be moved.
Its stakes will never be pulled up, and none of its ropes will be broken.
For there the majestic LORD will be for us a place of rivers and wide streams.
No boat with oars will go there, and no mighty ship will pass through.
For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king;
he will save us.
Your rigging hangs loose;
it does not hold the base of their mast firm or spread the sail.
Then abundant plunder will be divided;
even the lame will take the spoil.
No inhabitant will say, “I am sick.”
The people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity.
