Job 4

BTNT-2026-11-04

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered: “If someone ventures a word with you, will you grow weary?
Yet who can hold back from speaking?
You have instructed many and strengthened weak hands. Your words have upheld those who stumbled, and you have strengthened buckling knees. But now it comes to you, and you grow weary;
it touches you, and you are dismayed.
Is not your reverence your confidence, and the integrity of your ways your hope? Remember now: who ever perished being innocent?
Where were the upright destroyed?
As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same. By the breath of God they perish;
by the blast of his nostrils they are consumed.
The lion's roar and the voice of the fierce lion are silenced, and the teeth of young lions are broken. The lion perishes for lack of prey, and the lioness's cubs are scattered. Now a word came to me in secret, and my ear caught a whisper of it. Amid troubling thoughts from visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people, fear and trembling came upon me and made my bones quake. A spirit passed before my face, and the hair on my body stood on end. It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance.
A form was before my eyes;
there was stillness, and I heard a voice:
‘Can a mortal be more righteous than God?
Can a man be purer than his Maker?
He puts no trust in his servants and charges his angels with error; how much less in those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like a moth! From morning to evening they are shattered;
they perish forever, with no one taking notice.
Is not their tent cord pulled out?
They die without wisdom.’
