Leviticus 5

BTNT-2026-11-04

If anyone hears a call to testify under oath and is a witness, whether he has seen or knows the matter, he sins if he does not declare it and shall bear his iniquity. Or if anyone touches any unclean thing, whether the carcass of an unclean wild animal, the carcass of unclean livestock, or the carcass of an unclean swarming creature, and it is hidden from him, he is unclean and guilty. Or if he touches human uncleanness, any uncleanness by which he may become unclean, and it is hidden from him, when he comes to know it he is guilty. Or if anyone rashly swears with his lips to do evil or to do good, whatever a person may rashly declare under oath, and it is hidden from him, when he comes to know it he is guilty in one of these things. When he becomes guilty in one of these things, he shall confess the sin he has committed. He shall bring to the LORD his reparation for the sin he has committed, a female from the flock, a ewe lamb or a female goat, as a sin offering. The priest shall make atonement for him for his sin. If he cannot afford a sheep or goat, he shall bring to the LORD as his reparation for the sin he has committed two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a sin offering and one for a burnt offering. He shall bring them to the priest, who shall present the one for the sin offering first. He shall twist its head at the back of its neck, but shall not detach it. He shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the wall of the altar. The remaining blood shall be drained out at the base of the altar. It is a sin offering. He shall prepare the second as a burnt offering according to the prescribed rule. The priest shall make atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he shall be forgiven. If he cannot afford two turtledoves or two young pigeons, he shall bring as his offering for the sin he has committed a tenth of an ephah of fine flour, about two quarts, as a sin offering. He shall not put oil on it or put frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering. He shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take from it his full handful as its memorial portion and turn it into smoke on the altar, on top of the offerings by fire to the LORD. It is a sin offering. The priest shall make atonement for him for the sin he has committed in any one of these things, and he shall be forgiven. It shall belong to the priest, as does the grain offering.’” The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “If anyone acts unfaithfully and sins unintentionally regarding the LORD’s holy things, he shall bring his reparation to the LORD, a ram without blemish from the flock, according to your valuation in shekels of silver by the sanctuary shekel, about 0.4 ounces per shekel, as a guilt offering. He shall make restitution for what he has done wrong regarding the holy thing, add a fifth to it, and give it to the priest. The priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and he shall be forgiven. If anyone sins and does one of the things the LORD’s commandments forbid, though he does not know it, he is guilty and shall bear his iniquity. He shall bring to the priest a ram without blemish from the flock, according to your valuation, as a guilt offering. The priest shall make atonement for him for the error in which he erred without knowing it, and he shall be forgiven. It is a guilt offering; he has surely incurred guilt against the LORD.”
